Settlement in this area began in the 1840s when a group of German immigrants established an agricultural community along Cypress Creek in Harris County. They were joined in 1854 by Adam Klein and his wife. Adam had initially sought his fortune in the goldfields of California but came to the Lone Star State when he wanted a place he could call home. Adam was instrumental in helping found the Trinity Lutheran Church, which still stands today on Spring Cypress Road, as well as the area’s first post office. The community served by that post office was officially named in Adam’s honor by the State Legislature in 1977. Adam’s great-great-grandson is the singer Lyle Lovett.
Local landmarks include Wunderlich Farm, which is an open-air, living history museum that celebrates the lives of those early German settlers. You can tour the homestead where Peter Wunderlich lived with his wife and his 12 children as well as the homestead’s barns and its heritage vegetable gardens. Wunderlich Farm is located on Theiss Mail Route Road, and it’s open to visitors on the last Saturday of every month. The Farm also hosts school tours as well as special events like seasonal Spring and Fall Fairs, and a Christmas Market.
The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts in nearby Spring has three galleries devoted to local art exhibitions as well as exhibitions celebrating artists from all over the world. Past exhibitions have included the work of Gulf Coast artists and art created by faculty members associated with the local Independent School District.
Klein Park is a popular, seven-acre recreational center for local families. It has 38 soccer fields for different age groups, four lighted athletic ball fields, pavilions, a dog park, a playground and restroom facilities.
This area also boasts one of the few privately owned airports in the United States with its own Federal Aviation Administration control tower. David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the entire United States.
